Air Canada will launch a new daytime transatlantic service from Toronto to London Heathrow on June 1, 2027. The route will be operated by the airline's new Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

The service is designed as a 'daytripper' flight. It will depart Toronto Pearson International Airport early in the morning and arrive at London Heathrow late in the same evening. The return leg will leave London mid-morning, landing back in Toronto in the mid-afternoon. This schedule increases Air Canada's total frequency on the Toronto-London route from four to five daily flights.

A New Option for Transatlantic Travel

Air Canada's move introduces a significant alternative to the traditional overnight 'red-eye' flights from North America to Europe. The airline states that daytime services can result in less jet lag, allowing UK-bound passengers to sync with the local time zone more easily upon arrival. One acknowledged drawback is the travel time consuming a full day.

The airline last operated a regular daytime service to Europe in 2020. The new flight is also positioned to boost connectivity through Air Canada's Toronto hub. The mid-morning departure from London is timed to give arriving passengers opportunities to connect onward to destinations across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Central and South America with just one stop.

Aircraft Specifications and Passenger Experience

Passengers on this route will be flying on Air Canada's brand-new Airbus A321XLR. The aircraft configuration will feature the carrier's first-ever lie-flat business class seats on a narrowbody plane. The full cabin layout provides a total of 182 seats.

The business class pods will be arranged in a one-by-one configuration. Travelers connecting to the United States via Toronto will benefit from US Customs and Border Preclearance facilities there, allowing them to bypass immigration queues upon final arrival in the US.

Integration into the Wider Network

This Heathrow service is part of Air Canada's broader network expansion for summer 2027. The airline has announced a range of new nonstop services between Toronto, Montreal, and various European cities. In a separate development, Air Canada will also become the only North American carrier flying to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China, with year-round services from Vancouver starting next May.

The airline is already integrating the A321XLR into its current operations. The aircraft's first transatlantic flight occurred on June 15, operating between Montreal and Toulouse. The new Toronto-Heathrow daytripper service will complement Air Canada's existing widebody operations on the busy city pair.
