Airports: The Club Aspire lounge in Heathrow Terminal 5 is being replaced by a No1 Lounge, with work already underway

The Club Aspire lounge at London Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 is being replaced by a No1 Lounge. Work on the transformation is now underway.

This change follows an exclusive 2024 interview with the then-Managing Director of No1 Lounges, Rami El-Dahshan. He revealed that the Club Aspire brand would be phased out. The brand's complex ownership structure facilitated this move.

Swissport International owns Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality, which operates Aspire Lounges. However, the Club Aspire brand specifically is a partnership with Airport Dimensions. Airport Dimensions owns No1 Lounges and is part of the Collinson Group, which also owns the Priority Pass program.

Brand Consolidation and Lounge Expansion

According to the source, it was felt that the Club Aspire name should be replaced to avoid brand confusion. This decision aligns with Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality's evolving vision for its lounge offerings.

The physical lounge space in Terminal 5 is getting bigger as part of the change. Terminal layout constraints limit the expansion, but the lounge is gaining approximately 20 feet in depth. A full interior redesign is also planned.

The report suggests the new design could follow the efficient layout of the Plaza Premium lounge. The goal is to create a far more welcoming space than the current Club Aspire lounge.

The Original Terminal 5 Lounge

Club Aspire opened in August 2015 as the first independent lounge in Heathrow's Terminal 5. It was initially welcomed for providing lounge access to passengers without British Airways status. Over time, its popularity led to overcrowding and wear.

The source states it is now very difficult to gain entry using a Priority Pass or similar card. It quotes a blunt assessment of the current experience: "if you do get in you very quickly end up wondering why you bothered."

While the new No1 Lounge is expected to be an improvement, the report cautions it will never be big enough for everyone who wants access. It is anticipated to remain a busy facility.

Future of the Club Aspire Brand

With the Heathrow location changing, the only remaining Club Aspire lounge will be in Gatwick Airport's South Terminal. The report notes replacing it there will be trickier. Other Airport Dimensions brands, including No1 Lounges, Clubrooms, and My Lounge, already have a presence in Gatwick South.

The report promises to provide further updates on the Heathrow lounge renovation as information becomes available. The transformation signals a significant shift in the independent lounge landscape at the UK's busiest airport.
