VIA Rail Develops Multimodal Hub for Montréal-Trudeau International Airport

## New Multimodal Hub for Montréal-Trudeau International Airport VIA Rail Canada has initiated development work on a new multimodal hub in Dorval, Quebec, aimed at connecting passenger rail services with public transport and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport. The Dorval Multimodal Hub will bring together VIA Rail and exo rail services with the shuttle service to YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport in a single location. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), exo, and Aéroports de Montréal (ADM). Construction and engineering company Construction Kiewit Cie has been selected as the design and construction partner. The current co-development phase will establish the detailed design of the hub and determine how the different transport services will be integrated. ## Improved Connections for Passengers The Dorval Multimodal Hub is expected to reduce transfer times and make journeys between the different transport networks more predictable. The existing VIA Rail station in Dorval handles around 250,000 travellers each year. The planned changes will allow passengers to transfer between rail, public transport, and the airport with less movement between separate facilities. The project forms part of a wider effort to improve links between the airport and communities across Montréal's West Island, while providing passengers with more options for reaching the airport without relying solely on road transport. Mathieu Paquette, President and Chief Executive Officer of VIA Rail Canada, stated that the project is part of VIA Rail's goal to provide passengers with more efficient and user-friendly public transit solutions. ## Collaboration and Partnerships The project partners will assess technical requirements, identify potential construction challenges, and develop more detailed estimates for the project's cost and schedule. Construction is planned to begin in 2027, subject to the completion of the development work. Yves Beauchamp, President and Chief Executive Officer of ADM Aéroports de Montréal, welcomed the launch of the VIA Rail's Dorval Multimodal Hub and emphasized the importance of this initiative in strengthening connectivity between YUL Montréal-Trudeau Airport and the various modes of public transport. The new multimodal hub is expected to contribute to a more seamless and sustainable mobility experience for the benefit of all users. The project's success will depend on the collaboration and partnerships between VIA Rail, ARTM, exo, and ADM. The development of the Dorval Multimodal Hub is a significant step towards improving the passenger experience and reducing the reliance on road transport in the region.
