United Launches UA222 to Toulouse, Expands to 10 New Cities
United Airlines will begin daily non-stop service from Washington Dulles to Toulouse on 26 April 2027, using the Airbus A321XLR and flight number UA222. The launch is part of a broader 2027 expansion that adds 10 new international destinations, many served by the new narrow-body aircraft.

United Airlines will launch a daily non-stop flight from Washington Dulles to Toulouse on 26 April 2027. The service will use the Airbus A321XLR and carry the flight number UA222.
New Toulouse Service
United’s announcement on Tuesday mirrors a playful Lufthansa joke. Lufthansa’s daily Munich-to-Toulouse flight is numbered LH2222, a number that gate agents announce as “Lufthansa flight LH two, two, two, two, to Toulouse.” United has chosen the same spirit for its new route, announcing the flight as UA222. The airline will operate the service from its Washington Dulles hub, using the long-range A321XLR to match demand and nod to the region’s largest employer, Airbus.
According to PaddleyOwnKanoo, the first flights will depart on 26 April 2027, with a daily schedule.
2027 International Expansion
United’s 2027 rollout is its largest international expansion yet, adding 10 new overseas cities. The new destinations include Ibiza, Okinawa, Luxembourg, Marseille, Toulouse, Terceira, Ljubljana, Olbia, and Catania. Most of the new routes are to European cities, defying reports that the U.S. love for ‘Euro Summer’ has faded.
From Newark, United will use the A321XLR to serve Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia, and Marseille. Terceira in the Azores will be served by a Boeing 737-MAX-8, while Ljubljana, Olbia, and Catania will be served by Boeing 767s. From San Francisco, a Boeing 777-200 will launch a new route to Okinawa, Japan, with three weekly services.
The airline also announced new routes from four additional U.S. hubs:
- Washington Dulles (IAD) - new route, 3× weekly, starting 28 May
- San Francisco (SFO) - restart, 3× weekly, starting 28 March
- Los Angeles (LAX) - new route, daily, starting 27 March
- Denver (DEN) - new route, daily, starting 27 May

Aircraft and Network Strategy
The A321XLR makes previously unviable routes to secondary European cities possible. United can now fly passengers non-stop to destinations that would not justify a wide-body long-haul aircraft. This strategy helps the airline compete with European carriers that use their home hubs to connect customers onto short-haul networks across the continent.
Patrick Quayle, United’s SVP of Global Network Planning and Alliances, said: “We aim to have a destination on our route map for every traveler, at every stage of their lives. Whether it’s a business trip, a dream honeymoon, a bucket-list adventure, or a trip home to see family, we’re making the world feel smaller and connecting cultures at a scale no other airline in the world can match.”
Impact on Ibiza Tourism
United’s new service to Ibiza is seen as a major win for the island’s government and tourism promotion agency. The agency had reportedly been in talks with the airline to secure non-stop flights from the United States. While the government had been looking at a single weekly service, United will launch a seasonal summer service with four flights per week from Newark.
The announcement was made by United on Tuesday, and the airline’s 2027 network expansion includes new routes from four more U.S. hubs, as detailed above.
