JetBlue introduces BlueFirst domestic First Class with 12 recliner seats on A320s, bento box meals, and priority services...

JetBlue has detailed its new BlueFirst domestic First Class cabin. The airline will install three rows of recliner seats on its Airbus A320 fleet, offering a premium experience separate from its Mint service.

At the heart of the new cabin are Collins Aerospace MiQ First Class recliners. JetBlue says it has upgraded these seats with Tuft & Needle's T&N Flex foam to provide personalized support. The seats will be arranged in a 2-2 layout.

Cabin and Seat Specifications

The 12 BlueFirst seats at the front of the A320 offer specific amenities. The airline provided a list of features for the new cabin.

Food and Beverage Program

JetBlue has developed a unique food service called FirstFare for BlueFirst. Due to limited galley space on its non-Mint aircraft, the airline will serve cold meals in cardboard bento-style boxes. Each box contains an entrée, side, and dessert.

FirstFare meals are only available on flights of 899 miles or more. Options will include sweet or savory crepes and sesame noodles with beef or tofu. On shorter flights, passengers will be offered snacks from brands like Sockerbit and Cape Cod Chips.

The drink selection aims to differentiate the service. It will feature specialty coffee from Cometeer and Joe Coffee, Smith Teamaker teas, and wines selected by New York's Parcelle. Passengers can also use an interactive "Mixologist Mode" on their screens to design custom cocktails, which are then sent to flight attendants.

Ground Experience and Rationale

BlueFirst includes a dedicated ground experience. Passengers get a priority check-in line, fast-track security at around 30 airports, Group 1 boarding, and reserved overhead bin space. Both BlueFirst and BlueFirst Flex fares include two free checked bags with priority delivery.

JetBlue chief executive Joanna Geraghty explained the launch. "Customers are increasingly looking for more premium experiences," she said. Geraghty added that the airline started with comfort because customers said it matters most.

The airline stated that BlueFirst addresses a gap in its network. While JetBlue has Mint lie-flat seats on some routes, it lacked a premium cabin for its biggest-spending passengers on other flights. The carrier says it was losing these travelers to airlines offering a proper First Class experience.

Impact on Main Cabin

The introduction of BlueFirst does not change the total seat count on JetBlue's Airbus A320s. To make space, the airline is reducing legroom in the Main Cabin. Seat pitch will be cut from around 34 inches to an industry standard of 30 inches.

Glassware for the new cabin is sourced from Fable, while coasters are designed by New York City illustrator Danielle Rose Fisher.
