Frontier Cuts 8 O'Hare Routes, Adds Two
Frontier Airlines is cutting eight routes from Chicago O'Hare in September, a 9% reduction, while adding two new routes to Fort Lauderdale and San Juan.

Frontier Airlines has cut eight routes from its schedule at Chicago O'Hare International Airport for September. According to scheduled data from aviation analytics provider Cirium, this represents a 9% reduction in the airline's scheduled flights from O'Hare compared to September of last year.
Most of the affected routes last operated in May and are not scheduled to return for the remainder of the year. Cancún and Phoenix are exceptions, with both routes scheduled to resume service on October 8.
Routes Removed from O'Hare
Data from Cirium shows the eight routes Frontier Airlines has removed from its Chicago O'Hare schedule for September. The affected destinations are as follows:
Frontier last operated the Cancún route on August 17. The Phoenix route was last operated in May. When the Phoenix service returns on October 8, Frontier plans to operate it four times weekly.
New Routes Added for September
Frontier is operating two routes from O'Hare in September that it did not operate in the same period last year. The new services are to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan.
The airline launched the Fort Lauderdale service in November 2025 with three weekly flights. It now operates the service daily using its 240-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft. US Department of Transportation data shows the service recorded an 85.94% load factor for the 12 months through May 2026.
San Juan is a returning service. Frontier reinstated the Chicago O'Hare-San Juan route in March, after last operating it in 2022. It currently operates one daily flight on the route, although the service is scheduled to end on September 8. It will return on November 20 before another short suspension at the end of November. The airline will then resume the route on December 17 and operate it daily through the end of the month.
Frontier's Shifting O'Hare Presence
Chicago has long been an important market for Frontier. The carrier reopened its Chicago crew and pilot base in May 2024, after closing it in 2022. The base supports operations at both Chicago O'Hare and Chicago Midway.
For September, Frontier has 324 departures scheduled from O'Hare, providing around 74,506 seats. This represents a combined schedule of up to 17 daily departures from the two Chicago airports.
O'Hare has fallen in rank among Frontier's busiest airports. Based on scheduled departures for September, O'Hare has slipped from 11th to 19th position within the carrier's network. Denver International Airport remains Frontier's busiest airport for the month, with more than 1,800 scheduled departures. Orlando International Airport follows with 1,758 flights, while Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ranks third with 1,748 departures.
